Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is less complex but still a very effective treatment. Due to its continuous nature, patients tend to have stable biochemical and fluid profiles. Its flexibility makes it suitable for patients who are independent and/or have work commitments. The treatment is primarily home-based and each patient has an individual prescription, tailored to both his and her clinical and lifestyle requirements.
Given the clear and proven benefits of peritoneal dialysis, it is important to prolong the time on therapy, sustaining good quality, optimizing clinical outcomes, and preparing patients the best way possible for their future lives on dialysis treatment.
In order to reach this goal Gambro’s PD key objectives are to:
- Preserve the patient’s residual renal function
- Ensure treatment compliance and total flexibility
